Doug Demuro has made no end of FP enemies, as evidenced by the popularity of comments like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! made by some kind of ham fist or something. But I want your opinion, Oppo, what say you?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I like Doug and I think he's been a smart pick by the Jalopnik staff as he clearly knows how to write for views and comments. Seriously, within 5 minutes of a DeMuro article popping up the comments are filled, I suspect his kinja inbox icon is perpetually that little infinity icon. I firmly believe his controversial writing style is just that, a style and that he knows what he's doing to bring readership to the site and not in a clickbait way so familiar to Gawker. So what do you think? As a former (current) opponuat, is Doug the real deal or a real or a real dick.

Chime in anytime Doug.

I think that the vast majority of the responses boil down to jealousy. Its no secret that the internet is a vile place, populated by halfwits. The reality is that if people put half the amount of time they spend on Oppo, or the internet, and use it to their careers, they could achieve some modicum of success. Surely enough to live out sme of their automotive fantasies. Instead, i spend most of my free time on here trying to be "productive."

Don't read the front page, nor do I care about the endless drama that happens there.

I like Doug's style of writing. It's the way men used to talk to each other where we all give each other shit and we're ok with it because we all give as good as we get. For anything even slightly insulting Doug has ever said he gets 10x back.

The comments section of the Demuro articles are the best part though.

Option D: *ambivalent shrug*

I certainly don't hate him or think his writing is "controversial", nor do I spend the day waiting with baited breath to go get all knob-slobby in the comments of his latest bit.

I like Doug's writing style, and I think he is a smart pick. I am FUCKING DONE hearing about the Ferrari. Shit is played son. I don't care, go try and pick up chicks in a goddamn 88 CRX. I have, and the content would be more interesting. Let his friends take out a ragged Maxima diesel wagon. Take the talent and go stick him in some more interesting cars and it would be brilliant.

I also like him, and I agree he needs to spread his wings a bit. The name of his book is "Plays With Cars," after all, not "Plays With Car."

People that don't like him are the same sort of people who would write in to Top Gear to complain about them dropping pianos on cars.

He has a unique and entertaining writing style and happens to like cars. Sure, he writes about owning a Ferrari a lot, but it's entertaining. What I really don't get is how people can dislike him but still read all his articles and then take the time to comment how much they dislike him. If you don't like Doug DeDouchebag, maybe you should just, I don't know, not click on his articles?

Any page view is a good page view, so the haters are only making it worse.

I'm a fan of Doug's writing, and the fact that he spends a lot of time responding to comments is also very much to his credit. He did rub me the wrong way a bit with his drag-racing post, but I took it as humor, and that he was writing from the point of this aloof, rich guy, which he's actually not. I also wish he hadn't done the post about all the hateful comments and emails he's gotten, though; much better to just laugh at those people and/or take pity on them. I prefer not to feed the trolls.

very good point. Great, you have a nice ride or 3. Awesome. I think that makes a better case for Doug drives a beater as a weekly segment. Then work the Ferrari content into that. I don't begrudge a man for having a nice whip or even flaunting it, but there are only so many ways to play with one car

I don't want this to come off as a douche comment, because I don't think you're being one either, but are you aware that he had planned to write about it a lot well before buying it, and that he polled the Jalopnik community thoroughly about which car to get beforehand?

If you do, that's fine, because I actually agree, but I've noticed there seem to a lot of folks who have no clue about that.

The man held a respected, well-above entry level position with Porsche North America. Obviously he's not an idiot. I love Doug's articles and am looking forward to meeting him one of these days.

I like his articles but he's a little too much WASPy preppy whiteboy for me. As in, slightly out of touch.

Seriously, look at the video he posted of all his friends driving his Ferrari . Look at all those preppy ass Whitey McWhiteWhites! Not to mention he apparently is unable to eat at restaurants that don't offer valet parking .

That's not to say you can't enjoy content produced by a person, while also not necessarily being a huge fan of that person. For example I find Top Gear entertaining but by all counts Jeremy Clarkson is a racist (amongst other undesirable traits) asshole. And I'll still watch Tom Cruise movies despite him worshiping aliens.

I am aware of the poll, and totally not trying to be a douche, so I appreciate the tact. I think it should have been made implicit that he was going to write about it twice a week. I read, I laugh, but I think it has run it's course. Let the man enjoy his car and not pick up chicks in it :)

Some people need to chill out on the Doug hating, hahaha

The thing about his writing style/humor is that a lot of it is satire and somewhat sarcastic. That's the whole point. And people take all of that literally and start flaming him, and then his last piece where he addressed all of that was even more satire to piss off the people that don't get it in the first place, and make people who do understand it appreciate it/laugh even more.

Now, there have been a couple pieces he's written that I haven't really enjoyed all that much, but I thought his book was fantastic, and I enjoy the writing he does for Jalopnik.

I think Doug was probably the best recent hire at Jalopnik. If you don't read his articles like he's serious, you'll enjoy them. I really don't care what he writes about, I always enjoy it.

It's just not very interesting to me. Content is spread out thin and the rest is... you know that static noise you used to get on TV? :)

Any of you remember that Dave Chapelle bit about a whore's uniform?

Kinja'd!!!

Sure, Doug might not be a douche, but his writing style makes him look like one. Satire and sarcasm are a precision tool, not a mallet. Incidentally, flat out insulting people does not make for very good satire. Clever satire will get even the targeted party to crack a smile. But that's too much effort for a blog post, yeah? Much easier to simply troll people and fuck it.

But hey, I'm obviously in minority here, so I must be the douche, right? Or jealous of his Ferrari? Or his mad clickbait skills? :)

I thought we agreed clickbait was the cancer of the internet? Do you all frequent and enjoy the many top10 list websites which pool content from elsewh... Oh wait, that's what Jalopnik usually does. Ho-hum, what a pickle.

I wish Torch would do more of his original stuff. :(

It will soon be time for the next one. Don't worry — I only have a few more stories left with the Ferrari. Thinking I'll sell it in 3-4 months. Then on to something new, which you can grow tired of once again :)
